On august 21, 2017, Columbia, South Carolina broke history.

The streets filled from median to sidewalk for the very rare solar eclipse.

According to NASA, a solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and the earth. When this happens, the moon obstructs the sun’s light and causes an eclipse, or a shadow to appear. This can happen, but is very rare which is why this is considered a once in a life time opportunity.

An expected 1 million plus travelers occupied the streets of Columbia, with totality lasting two minutes and 33 seconds.

Tourists were entertained with hundreds of family friendly events to help celebrate a truly historical event.

We recorded a time lapse in order to show the significant change of time. The totality’s period was the longest historically speaking, making it a life long experience.
