Volleyball Opens Season

August 27, 2015

Varsity Volleyball opened their season to a large crowd Tuesday, August 25th, against former region rival Spring Valley.  The team is starting fresh with few varsity returners from last years playoff season.  Elizabeth Craig, Senior, is out on an injury which allowed former JV player, Thalia Watkins, to open as libero.   After a 2-1 JV loss, Varsity Volleyball was determined to make a statement with their first game of the season.  At the first time out mark of the first set the lady Cavaliers were up 11-7 against the Vikings.  But, the lady Vikings fought back, narrowly grabbing the first set 25-22.  Demoralized, the second set was low scoring for the Cavaliers, and the Vikings won 25-8.  The third set was consistently neck and neck, both teams rarely reached more than a two point difference throughout.  The Vikings overall won three sets to zero after a close 25-23 win in the final set.  Sophomore star athlete, Logan McMullan, believes “We have to work on our coverage, attitudes, and just playing our game in order to win the next one.”  McMullan and her team will have their chance to gain a victory over the Vikings again on September 8th, 2015 when the lady Cavaliers travel to Spring Valley.
