¨From my knowledge, I´m the first one [female athletic director] in the school¨ Proctor said.
The end of the 2023-2024 school year had many new announcements. Along with the new administration team, RNE announced a new athletic director. HER name is Mironda Proctor.
While Coach Proctor may be the new athletic director of RNE, she is not new at being an Athletic Director (AD) or new to RNE.
¨This is the sixteenth year that I´ve been a coach. I’ve coached at different levels, middle school and high school.” Proctor said.
Throughout her extensive career, she has coached basketball, cheer, track and field, and cross country. The latter two she coached here. Proctor previously filled the AD position at Keenan High School. ¨After I left Keenan, I went back into coaching, because my daughter was young, and it [being an athletic director] took a lot away from my family life,¨ Proctor said
While being a female AD for RNE is historic, for Proctor it is nothing new.
¨I never actually had a male athletic director all the time I was in school. So my athletic director when I was in high school was female,¨ Proctor said. ¨And then when I went to college at SC State, there was also a female athletic director. I got to talk to both [high school and college AD] of them in that capacity, and I’m thinking I liked what they did for their jobs and the representation they had for female athletics,¨
This school year has already brought promising ideas for the athletic program.
¨We’re rolling out this new app. I’m trying to allow for points if you come to certain games and things like that. That’s something that’s still in the works,¨ Proctor said.
She got the idea from Westwood High School. The app would allow students to receive points for going to games and then win things with points. Games where fewer people attend, like baseball and volleyball, will be worth more points. The app is not the only thing Proctor has in the works. She hopes to develop a competitive cheer team.
¨I used to be a cheer coach, so when talking with Mrs. Butler, the cheer coach, about our vision for competitive cheer, having the experience of being a cheer coach, helps me resonate with her about the needs of the program,¨ said Proctor. In addition to working on a competitive cheer team, Proctor added a golf team to the RNE athletics program, one that already has a full roster. ¨One of the big focuses is branding our whole athletic department. Some sports do better than others in getting information out there,¨ Proctor said. “[We need to be] telling the public, and giving our story about what is going on between these four walls. I think that we have a lot of good things going on. Coming from the outside, I wasn’t aware of a lot of the good things going until I got in the building, and I think that story should be shared with everybody.¨
