Student Government plans for next year

Student Government has some huge accomplishments during the school year. From the Classic Clash of the Class basketball game to the Spring Fling, SGA certainly added fun to the school year.

“Our student body elections this year had a really great vibe,” Student Activities Director, Regina Cherry said “A lot of high notes.”

The ‘Enchanted Evening Prom was on May 11 from 8-11 pm, at R2i2. This year, the newly elected Student Body President Dulce Calix-Echerria added some surprises. Certain prom attendees found tickets under their seats. These tickets would be exchanged with the DJ for a prize. Alex Washington got the title ‘Prom King’ and La’Deja Williams got the title ‘Prom Queen’.

Another highlight of the year was the first annual Cavalier Clash of the Classes basketball game, which the juniors won. The game served to honor our fallen Cavaliers. Tickets from the game funded a brand new scholarship of $1,000 for two lucky seniors. On May 24 at the Senior Assembly, one boy and one girl will each receive the scholarship.

Student Government’s already planning for next year.

“There are just some signature events that are true to the Richland Northeast,” Mrs. Cherry said.

They plan on bringing back several events next school year, such as Hope 365, Homecoming, and the Winter Formal.

This year the Winter Wonderland was on December 16 at 6:00-8:30 in the auxiliary gym. Sophomore House hosted this event mainly for ninth and tenth graders. Next year Student Government will debut a Fall Festival dance to go alongside the Winter Wonderland Dance.

Calix-Echeverria will serve for the 2024-2025 school year. She plans to focus on the Hispanic population at RNE and Hispanic Heritage Month. Next year she plans to debut an International Festival to highlight the cultural diversity among the RNE area.

During the summer, the newly elected leaders of the Student Council will meet in a July workshop. These new leaders will plan for the upcoming school year. SGA will give an orientation to rising ninth graders.

On May 16, there will be a passing of the mantle ceremony for the Student Council to welcome these new leaders and celebrate the graduating seniors.
